Phototherapy is used to treat a variety of skin diseases, most commonly psoriasis. At the Anheuser Busch Institute and Des Peres locations, both UVB and PUVA treatment options are offered.

UVB - Involves exposing the skin to a specific wavelength of ultraviolet light that is therapeutic for psoriasis. Phototherapy light boxes produce UVB artificially to suppress psoriasis.

PUVA - PUVA is an acronym for psoralen (a plant extract) combined with exposure to ultraviolet light (UVA). The combination is used to treat psoriasis on the whole body or isolated sites such as the hands and feet. PUVA clears psoriasis for more than 85% of patients who use it, and it induces long remission times even without maintenance therapy.

To make an appointment to see a physician for evaluation, please call (314) 256-3400
or (314) 977-9711.
